My app for social good is called TRKR, or "Tracker". Recent studies have shown that apps are able to piggyback on other apps you've given permissions to and can even gather data from your Wi-Fi connections. Thusly, the main purpose of the app is to track and present what type of data the apps on the user's phone is collecting.
The main page of the app provides an overview of the apps and how invasive they are, which are presented through colors, hence the red, yellow, and green, and a short rundown of the types of data gathered from these apps. It is also here that a helper "robot" explains the workings of the apps and can provide a rundown of all of your apps, should you choose not to look at an individual app. Beyond tracking the data collection patterns of the apps on one's phones, the app also assists the user in ways to reduce data collection through permissions, whether they should keep the app, and other better substitutes for that app. |
